Rivne region holds a special place on the map of Ukraine. During the years it was in the center of European historical events, scientific and creative activity.  

It is a heart of ancient Volyn. The travel around the Rivne region will help you to turn alive pages of history which are full of wonderful events of past and present.  

You will touch the depth of the land’s history, its Slavonic past and the unique monuments of the Ukrainian Middle Ages.  

The bells of the church and monasteries will greet you. You will see ancient villages and towns were founded by our contemporaries.  

Our land welcomes everybody who is interested in the deepness of Ukrainian history, who appreciates pure nature and respectful people.  

Rivne natural preserve 

It occupies the territory of four tracts which are located one from another in a considerable distance: Biloozerskyi tract (Volodymyrec district), Perebrodivskyi tract (Dubrovytsya district), Syra Pohonnya tract (Rokytne district) and Somyno tract (Sarny district). Rivne natural preserve is the biggest one in the country with the area of 42 289 ha (104 498,39 acres). The forests occupies 44,2% of its territory and 53,2% of the territory are covered with the swamps.  

700 species of the plants grow there and 320 species of the animals reside the territory of Rivne natural preserve. 13 species of the plants and 25 species of the animals are registered in the Ukrainian Red Book. 

Historical and Cultural Heritage  

There 11 national museums on the territory of Rivne region. They include 8 museums, historical and cultural reserves in Dubno and Ostroh, National state historical and memorial reserve "Berstechko Battle Field". 
3258 historical and cultural monuments which include 1088 archeological, 1761 historical, 325 architectural and 84 monuments are registered.  

 There are 162 monuments of sacred wooden architecture on the territory of the region, they include 36 monuments of the national and 126 of local significance that are used according to their intended purpose.  

8 castles, architectural monuments of national significance are situated in Rivne region. Unique castle culture, which had a defensive importance, is typical for Rivne region. It is most vividly represented in Tarakaniv fort, Dubno and Ostroh castles, Mezhyrich monastery and fortress.  

13 cities of Rivne region are indicated in the list of the historical cities of Ukraine approved by the President’s decree. They are: Rivne, Dubno, Korets, Ostroh, Dubrovytsia, Radyvyliv, Berezne, Volodymyrets, Hoscha, Klevan, Mizoch, Mlyniv, Stepan.
